Teresa backs campaign to save Elmstead Rehabilitation Unit’s services

Teresa has signed a petition urging Bexley Council and South London Healthcare NHS Trust to keep the Elmstead Rehabilitation Unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital open and its current level of service running.

The Unit has over 400 patients, mainly from Bexley, and provides rehabilitation to people with Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, Guillain Barre Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Ataxias and Muscular Dystrophy.

Local people have told Teresa that they are worried that big changes to local health services and ongoing financial pressures could affect the level of service provided or put the Unit’s future under threat.

The petition already has over 1,000 signatures. To add your name to the petition, please click here and visit the campaign website for updates.

Teresa is due to meet representatives from Bexley Care Trust in early June to discuss general health issues in Erith and Thamesmead, and will also raise the future of the Unit at the meeting and keep constituents updated.
