Teresa has called on people in Erith and Thamesmead to take part in a consultation about how well whistleblowing arrangements currently work and to make recommendations for change.
The consultation, being undertaken by the Whistleblowing Commission set up by the charity Public Concern at Work, is in response to recent scandals where workers have known about malpractice but could not or would not speak up, or spoke up only to be ignored.

Teresa said:
“Recent scandals such as the discovery of horsemeat in the food chain, the culture of gagging in the NHS, LIBOR interest rate rigging in banking and phone hacking in the media show there is an urgent need to review whistleblowing arrangements.
“We need whistleblowing to be viewed as an effective and positive activity so that more people will come forward, whilst at the same time balancing the interests of colleagues, employers and society at large.
“I hope that by people sharing their good or bad experiences with the Commission, we can make some much-needed improvements.”
