Teresa responds to the Government’s decision to delay plans to privatise the Land Registry

Teresa Pearce MP, Labour’s Shadow Housing and Planning Minister, responding to the Government’s decision to delay plans to privatise the Land Registry, said:

“At last the government has seen sense and decided to think again about this senseless scheme to privatise the Land Registry.

“The Land Registry is a public service and is run at no expense to the taxpayer – indeed it has made a surplus in 19 of the last 20 years and paid back £119m to the public purse last year alone.

“The government must keep the Land Registry in public hands, and should now drop their plans to privatise it, refocus on the housing crisis before us and come forward with a coherent plan to urgently build the homes we need.”
